Millage divisiveness
I attended a recent Bloomfield Township Board meeting and saw firsthand the divisiveness in our community that this proposed millage renewal has wrought.
Why all the divisiveness? We are all of the same community. We all want a safe and secure environment. For the Savoie administration to pit the police and fire departments against residents that do not see the merit of the millage renewal is wrong.
The issue is not with these dedicated first responders but with the administration. There is simply no confidence in the Savoie administration’s ability to administer the funds generated by the millage and negotiate the police, fire and other employment contracts that are expiring this year. Savoie failed in nine years as supervisor to address unfunded pension fund and health care obligations.
And now he demands more money to “finish the job.”
Since the SAD millage was defeated in August 2019, there has been no belt tightening by our elected officials. They have kept their $15 a month health insurance, their luxury SUVs delivered with a full tank of gas and fresh car wash every day and their four day work week.
Sure they did away with a community wide recycling event that saves the environment and laid off the animal control staff that helps find our lost pets. But all and all they held the line and kept their compensation and benefits packages in place.
