Meal locations, statewide map for where to find food distributi­on during virus

Anyone under the age of 18 is eligible to receive up to two meals per day

The Michigan Department of Education has released an updated map of where to find meals during the COVID-19 school closures.

As the first week out of class begins for students, districts and community organizati­ons are also working to communicat­e directly to families in need. Roughly one-third of students in Oakland County receive free or reducedpri­ce meals.

Anyone under the age of 18 can receive up to two meals per day under the Unanticipa­ted School Closure Summer Food Service Program. Students with disabiliti­es ages 18 to 25 with an active individual education program also qualify.

Many school-wide feeding programs will begin on Wednesday, March 18 including South Lyon Community Schools and Pontiac School District.

South Lyon Community Schools will hold three food distributi­on days, providing pre-packed breakfast and lunch for seven days during each pick up.

Distributi­on will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. March 25 and April 1 at South Lyon High School, Kent Lake Elementary, Dolsen Elementary and Salem Elementary. Pick-up can be found at the front entrance.

Volunteers will deliver the meals, depending on the number of children in the household, to each vehicle.

Social services organizati­on Active Faith will also be providing groceries to the South Lyon community from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, located at 401 Washington St. in South Lyon.

Pontiac School District will begin delivering meals to students throughout the district by bus on Wednesday. Deliveries will take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Informatio­n on bus route stops and times can be found on the district’s website.

Oxford Community Schools began its food distributi­on program on Monday with pick up available at three locations.

The district will provide both breakfast and lunch for each day of the week in take-home bags. Students, parents or guardians can pick up extra meals for days in-between distributi­on, which will take place:

• 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the north entrance of Oxford High School.

• 11 to 11:30 a.m. in front of the clubhouse at the Lake Villa mobile home park

• Noon to 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Village Manor Apartments

Distributi­on will take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
