City launches new tool for reporting issues

- — Anne Runkle, MediaNews Group

The city of Southfield has launched a new platform that will allow residents to directly report issues and request city services from their cell phone or computer.

With the free Southfield Solutions mobile app and web tools, Southfield residents and businesses can provide city staff with pictures, specific descriptions, geo-locating and more — valuable information needed to resolve an issue efficiently.

In addition, the Southfield Solutions platform provides city officials with a centralized system to manage issues from the initial report to resolution — engaging the community throughout the process.

After reviewing several possible vendors, the city selected QAlert because it provides unlimited staff user licenses, GPS-based geographic assignments and the ability to incorporate the city of Southfield’s branding.

The system is easy for the community to use, allowing residents to quickly create an account and view a history of requests they have submitted and the status of each. Additionally, with QAlert the complaint goes directly to city staff tablets in the field.

The city’s rubbish and recycling vendor GFL will pay for half the annual cost of the system.

Previous SeeClickFix users will need to create an account in the new system in order to continue reporting service request issues. All existing SeeClickFix requests for service requiring further action after March 4 will be transferred to the new Southfield Solutions system.

In addition to the mobile apps, citizens can send reports directly to the city of Southfield website at www. cityofsouthfield.com.
