New COVID-19 cases number 1,156

Oakland County added 115 cases and nine deaths, reaching 64,461 confirmed cases. Macomb County added 129 cases and six deaths to hit 55,114 cases.

Michigan saw another day with new COVID-19 cases topping 1,000 on Saturday.

The number of new cases has been above 1,000 since Tuesday after several days below that level during the prior week.

On Saturday, the state announced 1,156 new cases with 68 new deaths, 62 of those identified from reviews of vital records.

Overall, 587,581 cases of coronaviru­s have been confirmed in Michigan since the pandemic arrived nearly a year ago. In that time, 15,522 deaths have been confirmed to be tied to a COVID-19 infection.

Counting probable cases, many because testing was not yet available, the state has had 645,550 cases and 16,508 deaths.

Worldwide, more than 113.6 million cases have been found with more than 2.5 million deaths. In the U.S., more than 28.5 million cases have been reported with more than 511,000 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Michigan ranks 14th in the nation in the number of total cases.

Metro Detroit added many of the new cases on Saturday, just over 38 percent of the newly found infections.

Wayne County added 138 cases and seven deaths, reaching 64,507 cases, most in Michigan. Detroit saw 58 new cases and four deaths, crossing the 30,000 mark.

Oakland County added 115 cases and nine deaths, reaching 64,461 confirmed cases.

Macomb County added 129 cases and six deaths to hit 55,114 cases.

In mid-Michigan, only a handful of new cases were reported: Five in Isabella County, four in Gratiot County, and one in Clare County.

However, two new deaths were reported in the area, both in Gratiot County.

Twenty new cases were reported in Midland County, pushing their total to 4,407. One more death was reported there.

Other notable increases were seen in Genesee County, with 63 new cases and two more deaths; in Grand Traverse County with 21 new cases; and in Washtenaw County with 47 new cases.
