Lakeland wins a pair on baseball diamond

A recap of high school sporting events reported to The Oakland Press over the weekend:

BASEBALL

• LAKELAND WINS TWO: The Lakeland baseball team won a pair of games on Saturday, besting Rochester Adams 6-2 and Detroit Catholic Central 5-4.

Against Adams, Mason Brown got the win on the mound for Lakeland. Andrew Platt, Nolan Hull and Matthew Hanneman each had two hits, while Caden Duryea drove in two runs.

Against Catholic Central, Brown hit a walk off tworun single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Eagles

the victory. Jake Held got the win on the mound.

Lakeland is 5-1 on the season.

• WL NORTHERN SPLITS: The Walled Lake Northern baseball team played a pair of games on Saturday, beating Cass City 14-6 and then lost to Bay City Western 7-6.

In the opener, Johnny Stepek had four six and six RBI to lead the Knights, while Ty Stepek homered and drove in a pair of runs.

In the second game, Johnny Stepek, Ty Stepek, Nick Sokol each had a hit and a RBI for the Knights.

• ATHENS 4, FRANKENMUT­H 2: The Troy Athens baseball team defeated Frankenmut­h 4-2 on Saturday.

Nathan Riffe had three RBI to lead the Red Hawks at the plate. Hunter Pidek locked up the save on the mound.

• CLAWSON, LUTHERAN NW SPLIT: The Clawson and Lutheran Northwest baseball teams split a pair of games on Saturday afternoon. Lutheran Northwest took the opener 9-0, while Clawson won the second game 4-0.

In the second game, Zac Foster threw a no-hitter to get the win for Clawson. Evan Krawczak had three hits and two RBI on the day for Clawson to lead them at the plate.

• SHRINE SWEEPS EVEREST: The Royal Oak Shrine baseball team picked up 6-3 and 6-0 wins over Clarkston Everest Collegiate on Saturday.

Drew Comer got the complete-game victory in Game 1 and drove in a pair of runs on the day. Stephen Ruhle got the win in the second game and drove in three runs. Kevin Wright added two RBI.

GIRLS SOCCER

• STONEY CREEK DOMINATES: The Stoney Creek girls soccer team dominated its way to three wins on Saturday, all by shutout.

The Cougars beat Eisenhower 1-0, Royal Oak 7-0 and Davison 3-0.

Lilley Bosley led Stoney Creek with six goals over the three games, while Sophie Homen recorded three shutouts in net.

• ADAMS 2, WALLED LAKE CENTRAL 1: The Rochester Adams girls soccer team edged Walled Lake Central on Saturday, 2-1.

BOYS LACROSSE

•BIRMINGHAM 14, CRANBROOK 7: The Birmingham United lacrosse team earned a 14-7 win over Cranbrook-Kingswood on Saturday to stay unbeaten.

James Hailer had four goals and eight assists to lead Birmingham in the win. Logan Flaherty had three goals, while goalie Jackson Tinsley made 11 saves.
