Bloomfield Hills starts fast, never looks back in win over Seaholm

- By Scott Burnstein

BLOOMFIELD HILLS » The well-oiled machine that is the Bloomfield Hills Blackhawks boys basketball squad steamrolled Birmingham Seaholm by the score of 58-32 Friday night at home to go to 2-0 on the young season.

It might just be December, however, the Blackhawks are playing like it’s at least February.

And the Hawks’ nest was rocking with the visiting Maples in town for a tussle. The tussle ended in Seaholm pleading for mercy from the Blackhawks pinpoint precision and plucky spirit.

Bloomfield Hills are the preseason favorites out of the OAA White Division. The veteran-laced Blackhawks were hot out of the box Friday, jumping ahead 27-4 in the first quarter and 36-10 at the half. They cruised from there and delivered a balanced scoresheet: Noah Adamczyk, C.J. Jackson and Julian Manna fired in 10 points apiece, senior center Carson Brodsky cleared 14 rebounds on the night.

“There’s a ton of potential with this team,” Bloomfield Hills head coach Phil Kurajian said. “Every one of these guys plays the right way. They play hard-nosed defense, they play smart, they play unselfish, and they move the ball around. I honestly feel we can be as good as we want to be right now, that’s the upside with this group and I think they realize it and want to max it out.”

Blackhawks senior forwards Ben Canty and Derrick Lee posted nine points each. Jackson quarterbacks the Bloomfield Hills football team in the fall.

Adamczyk is a budding superstar and one of the more underrated difference-makers in the area. Following a great summer crafting his game, he opened the season by going for 20 points, six assists and five rebounds in a win versus Novi back on Tuesday.

“We came out extra strong tonight, we were finding our ways into passing lanes and getting deflections on defense that led to our transition game,” Adamczyk said. “We just need to keep coming out there every night ready to go to work and good things will happen. That’s what we intend to do.”

Hunter Baldwin paced Seaholm with 11 points Friday in the loss. The Maples slip to 1-1.

Bloomfield Hills gets back to action next Tuesday at home against Livonia Stevenson before the club heads up north to play Traverse City West to wrap-up its pre-Christmas break schedule.
