A new trial date has been scheduled for a felon from Detroit accused of murdering an Oak Park woman last year.

Jury selection is set to begin May 9 in Oakland County Circuit Court for the case against Anthony Michael McClain, 37, charged in the shooting death of Shikyra Hinton,

25, on April 6, 2020.

The shooting happened in a residential court in the 15000 block of Miller Road, near Greenfield and Eight Mile roads, in Oak Park. Police said McClain was with a group of people who confronted another group on the street over a noise complaint. After a physical confrontation, McClain allegedly fired a gun multiple times, striking Hinton.

She was pronounced dead a short time later at an area hospital.

This is the second time a trial date has been set. It had initially been scheduled for last September before Judge Shalina Kumar, who has since left the Oakland County court after being appointed to U.S. District Court — Eastern District of Michigan. Until a judge is appointed to fill the vacancy at Oakland County Circuit Court, Kumar’s caseload is being handled by Judge Edward Sosnick, who came out of retirement temporarily to fill in as interim judge.

McClain has multiple felony convictions dating back to 2002, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records. They include prison time for eight felony convictions for selling drugs, using stolen credit cards, identity theft and failing to to pay child support.

McClain is held in the Oakland County Jail, with bond set at $250,000 cash/ surety.
