14 seats open on solid-waste board
Planning group responds to change requests
The county is looking for 14 people to watch over a state-mandated solidwaste plan.
The 14 members will be appointed to a board that will oversee the plan, which is intended to minimize the effect non-hazardous solid waste could have on public health, the environment and the landscape. The plan also outlines enforcement measures for those who violate the rules.
Committee members are required to attend all relevant meetings in order to handle requests for amending the county’s solidwaste plan as well as address state requests to update the plan.
Anyone who applies for one of the board’s seats and is confirmed by county commissioners would serve for two years.
The 14 seats represent the following categories::
• Three people from the general public
• Four representing the solid-waste management industry
• Two representing environmental-interest groups
• One elected county official
• One elected city official
• One elected township official
• One person representing industrial-waste generators
• One person from SEMCOG, the regional solid waste planning agency
Elected officials and those representing the general public must be current residents of Oakland County to apply.
Representatives of the solid-waste management industry, environmentalinterest groups, industrialwaste generators and SEMCOG don’t have to be residents, but they must be active in the county, conducting related business.
Anyone who is qualified can apply online at https:// forms.oakgov.com/79. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 3.
