-

The Elias Cady Society of Waterford attended the National Convention of The National Society Children of the American Revolution, (N.S.C.A.R.) at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, April 22-24.

Elias Cady Society Waterford Children of the American Revolution Corresponding Secretary Emma Nelson, age 9, and Sr. President Linda Royse attended. Emma was a page throughout the event and Elias Cady Society took home First Most Outstanding C.A.R. Society within the organization and Lewis Cass Society of Bay City took home Third Most Outstanding.

Michigan Society had officers installed including Sr. President Deb Rakoczy of Waterford, and President Jeremy Mathieu of Port Huron. Laurie Huber, of Troy, is Great Lakes Region Sr. Vice President. The region includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

State President Mathieu has chosen a project for the Michigan youth to work on this year titled “Bring Them Home.” He hopes to bring attention to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and their mission to “Provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel to their families and the nation” and to raise funds to help offset the costs of its missions overseas. The DPAA uses forensic science to bring home the bodies of fallen soldiers that were previously unidentifiable or that have recently been recovered. Mathieu will debut his project in May to include a pin and coin, available with a donation.

Mathieu,15, is a member of Lt. Isaiah Fuller Society that meets in Port Huron and is also a member of Sons of the American Revolution Blue Water Chapter, Boy Scout Troop 168, the Port Huron Northern Marching Band, and the Port Huron United

Red Dog Swim Team. Jeremy’s proud parents are Jim and Randi Mathieu of Port Huron.

The National Society of the Children of the American Revolution, founded in 1895, is the oldest patriotic youth organization in our country. Membership is open to descendants of patriots of the American Revolution. www.nscar.org.

Whitmer recognizes May as Military Appreciation Month

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has recognized May 2022 as Military Appreciation Month to honor and reflect on the service and sacrifice of our U.S. Armed Forces.

With Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 6, Victory in Europe Day on May 8, Children of Fallen Patriots Day on May 13, Armed Forces Day on May 21 and Memorial Day on May 30, this is a significant month for veterans and the military.

“This month, Michiganders are reminded of the heroic contributions of our service members, both active and retired, who answered the call to defend our state and nation,” said Gov. Whitmer.

“I am proudly designating May as Military Appreciation Month and wish to extend Michigan’s gratitude to our military families who serve at home with unwavering support and solidarity.”

There are many ways to celebrate Military Appreciation Month. One of the best ways to show support for the military is to donate to a charity that supports them. The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is accepting donations to help support military families with grants funding financial assistance.
