Impact100 Metro Detroit awards $100K grant to Lighthouse
Impact100 Metro Detroit named Pontiac-based Lighthouse and Detroitbased Midnight Golf as the recipients of two $100,000 grants, during its annual Big Give event, May 18.
In addition, Impact100 will divide $81,000 among the remaining finalists, Corktown Health, Living Arts, and Pontiac Community Foundation, according to a press release.
Based in Pontiac, Lighthouse is a social service agency which provides emergency housing and other services to residents in need.
For more information, visit lighthousemi.org. In its proposal for the grant, Lighthouse plans to use the funds to transform its Center Street facility in Pontiac into a family shelter, adding 54 emergency shelter beds for families experiencing homelessness within the community.
Detroit-based Midnight Golf will use the funds for its College, Career and Beyond initiative.
Grant applications were submitted by local nonprofits in early January and vetted by Impact100 Metro Detroit members. The winners were revealed during an event at the International Banquet & Conference Center in Detroit.
Founded in 2016, Impact100 Metro Detroit unites women philanthropists to award grants to local nonprofits in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. Each year, members donate $1,000 toward a collective grant.
“This wasn’t an easy decision for our 281 members — we were all so moved by the incredible work these organizations do in the community and beyond impressed with the proposals we received for this year’s Big Give,” Kelly Walsh, president of Impact100 Metro Detroit, said in the press release.
Past recipients of Impact100 Metro Detroit’s Big Give grants include Freedom House, Developing KIDS, The Lawn Academy, Micah 6 Community, Zaman International, Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan, Downtown Boxing Gym and The Empowerment Plan.
