Annual ‘Salute Our Warriors’ benefit event to be held at Rochester Hills estate
Sam and Ziad Kassab, in partnership with Senator Mat Dunaskiss, will host their “5th Annual Salute Our Warriors” benefit to honor military veterans and active service members while raising funds for The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund. The event is from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Danny Kassab Estate, 3910 Coachwood Lane in Rochester Hills.
The event pays tribute to the men and women who have served and sacrificed in all five branches of the United States military. Individual veterans are selected to be honored each year, while raising funds to help Michigan-based injured soldiers pay their living expenses and aid families of the fallen, according to a press release.
Each year military guests of honor are flown in by helicopter, landing in the backyard of the Kassab estate to standing ovations from hundreds of guests and supporters and are recognized with a tribute to their service and commemorative award.
“Everything we do for this annual event is dedicated to honoring our military heroes in the most meaningful ways and giving back to soldiers and families who have served and sacrificed so much to protect our freedom,” said Ziad Kassab.
“Every year the event gets bigger and better. Last year, we raised $75,000 for Michigan veterans and their families. We hope to raise $150,000 this year for The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, while providing a truly unforgettable experience for our honored veterans and guests alike.”
The benefit includes an open bar, dinner, live music, networking, and the opportunity to honor and support a host of Michigan veterans and military families. Each year the event draws a large crowd of dignitaries from local, state, and national levels of public service, active military, and veterans from all five branches of service, the Riveting Rosies, and a number of celebrity guests. This year’s special guests will include military heroes from the U.S. Navy SEALs, Vietnam War, and celebrity musical guest bassist Billy Cox, the last surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix experience.
Ticket prices for the benefit are $50 for veterans/$100 for veteran couples, $150 for individuals/$250 for couples. VIP tickets, which include a special VIP reception from 5 to 6 p.m., are $250 each or $400 per couple. All proceeds benefit The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund.

Comcast military veterans and employees launch flag replacement program
Comcast military veterans and employees recently launched a “flag replacement program” to help local customers and non-customers, alike, show their American spirit.
This program is led by employees who participate in Comcast’s Veterans Network Employee Resource Group known as “VetNet.” Members include Comcast employees who are military veterans, active participants in the Reserves, military family members and other supporters of the military community. Many of the members are Comcast front-line technicians who notice distressed flags during their daily routes.
If a Comcast employee notices a worn-out flag at a home or business, the technician shares the location with the Comcast flag replacement team, who contacts the individual or business and offers to replace it for free. Flags are replaced for residents, nonprofits, and small businesses, regardless of whether they are Comcast customers. The old flags are retired in accordance with military protocols. In Southeast Michigan, Comcast employees have already begun the program and have replaced nearly two dozen flags.
