Regional transport authority to launch holiday pass giveaway
Holiday traditions also happen among corporate families, be it office parties and charitable events supported by employees or holiday giveaways like that of Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART).
“The Holiday Pass Giveaway is a great tradition at SMART and for 10 years we’ve assisted our riders moving about the region during the holidays,” Tiffany Gunter, chief operating officer for SMART, said in a news release.
Next week marks the kick off for the annual event in
which SMART will surprise passengers with two courtesy tickets (each good for one ride on SMART) and one 31 day dart regional pass (valued at $70). Riders can request a four-hour pass when they pay with a courtesy ticket providing them with eight hours of free trips.
SMART General Manager Dwight Ferrell, who joined the holiday team last year in distributing the passes, said it’s easy to forget how difficult life can be without easy and affordable transit. “That’s why we love this event. It allows us to remove one worry from riders’ minds.”
It’s a win, win for everyone.
It’s fun for the drivers who get to share in spreading holiday cheer, and it’s great for the passengers, who may be experiencing tough times and financial difficulties during the holiday season.
“This festive event is an opportunity to spread joy and grand holiday wishes to our customers,” Gunter said. “We will continue with the SMART tradition and gift passengers with free rides this holiday season and show our appreciation for riders who support SMART every day.”
SMART bus has been operating a transit service in southeastern Michigan since 1967. Michigan’s only regional public transportation provider offers routes for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
