• Volunteers of America Michigan’s Operation Backpack will host its 14th annual back-to-school drive beginning June 19. The fundraiser collects and distributes new backpacks full of grade-specific supplies to children who live in low-income households. • Sunset at the Zoo is 7-11 p.m. June 23at The Detroit Zoo. Hosted by the Detroit Zoological Society, the event is a fundraising gala, with a strolling dinner featuring some of metro Detroit’s best restaurants and food trucks, an open bar, exclusive access to the Detroit Zoo’s habitats until twilight, a silent auction and live entertainment, ages 21+. Outdoor activities/ Parks
• Full Stream Ahead is a learning adventure program series that combines kayaking with a nature talk. Cost is $10/person. This program is recommended for ages 18 and older and is limited to eight participants per session. Park entry fee is not included. The series runs from June 20-Aug. 22. • Oakland County Parks to host free Come Out and
Play events that welcome families, day care centers, friends and youth groups to spend time outside, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 21, July 21 and Aug. 2 at Catalpa Oaks County Park, 27705 Greenfield Road, Southfield. For the zip line, children must be at least 45pounds and 42 inches tall. A waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian. Zip line participants must also wear closed-toe shoes. Shoes are required for the climbing tower and socks are required for non-water inflatables. For the water inflatables, a swimsuit or change of clothes is recommended. No registration is needed.
