American House Farmington Hills hosts Flag Day celebration honoring veteran residents

-

During the recent Flag Day celebration at American House Farmington Hills, veteran residents received honorary medals and a full program with speakers, patriotic music, a flagfolding ceremony and barbecue luncheon.

There are six American House Senior Living communities in the region, located in Farmington Hills, Rochester Hills, Dearborn Heights, Sterling Heights and Westland.

One of their main focus points at the senior living communities is veteran appreciation throughout the year with a variety of celebrations and events to honor and recognize their service.

“Through each year we continue to appreciate and celebrate our veterans, in partnership with General Carol Ann Fausone, an advocate for veterans who served as Michigan’s Adjutant General of Veterans Affairs and also served in the Air Force for 36 years,” said Regional Director of Sales and Operations Paula Marsee, CDP.

“Continuing her work in taking care of our American heroes and their families, she helps veterans fill out applications for benefits and qualify for financial assistance in moving into one of our communities. This is a value add of assistance at our communities. We are thrilled to partner and have an expert on hand to ensure our veterans receive their welldeserved benefits. All of our communities feature a ‘Wall of Heroes’ where we honor those who have served our great country.”

Gov. Whitmer announces funding for new Marquette Veterans Home

On June 14, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that the Marquette Veterans Home is fully funded to serve 100 veterans after securing state and federal funding. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program has provided $63.4 million in fiscal year 2023 funding for the construction of a new state veteran home to replace the D.J. Jacobetti home, located in Marquette.

“Michiganders who served our nation in uniform deserve access to safe, affordable housing and I am proud that we have secured funding to build a new veterans home in the UP,” said Gov. Whitmer.

The new home will serve more than 100 veteran members who will live in three unique neighborhood buildings that provide each veteran member with their own bedroom and bathroom and common gathering and kitchen spaces and connect to a community center.

Michigan Veteran Homes MVH operates Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids (MVHGR), Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MVHDJJ) in Marquette and Michigan Veteran Homes at Chesterfield Township (MVHCT). For more information, visit: www.michigan.gov/mvh.
