Case advances against driver accused in OWI crash that killed White Lake motorcyclist
Investigators said (the motorcyclist), who was wearing a helmet, was thrown into the air and then hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Waterford woman accused of killing a motorcyclist in a drunk driving crash in Pontiac will face an Oakland County Circuit judge for possible trial.
At the conclusion of a preliminary hearing on Feb. 6 in 50th District Court, Judge Jeremy Bowie bound over the case against Jessica Lenore Keller, charged with operating while intoxicated causing death and operating while intoxicated with an occupant less than 16 years old. The collision killed Kirt Stalker, 70, of White Lake Township.
Kellar reportedly had a 15-year-old child in the car with her at the time.
The crash happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2023 at the intersection of East Huron Street and Woodward Avenue in Pontiac when Kellar allegedly turned left into the motorcycle as they both traveled east along the roadway. Investigators said Stalker, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown into the air and then hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As stated in his obituary, Stalker was the married father of two, stepfather of three and grandfather of 11.
Neither Kellar nor her passenger was injured, officials said.
Kellar is scheduled for arraignment in the higher court on Feb. 27. She’s out of jail, having posted 10 percent of a $25,000 bond set by Bowie.
When he set bond last year, Bowie said that if Kellar posted it she would have to be monitored by electronic tether.
Also, he prohibited her from driving and entering a place that serves or dispenses alcohol.
Kellar faces up to 15 years in prison and/or a fine up to $10,000 if convicted of operating while intoxicated causing death. Operating while intoxicated with an occupant less than 16 years old is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine.
