HOLDERNESS, DAVID

-

David Holderness, devoted husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, and friend, passed away March 14, 2024 at home with his family by his side. Dave was born in 1934 to Melvin and Rosanne (Leonard) Holderness in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. He grew up in East Detroit, where he met and married his wife of 66 years, Carole (Desarmeaux), in May of 1957. Dave and Carole later moved to Rochester, Michigan where they lived for more than 60 years.

Dave spent most of his career managing tennis and athletic clubs. Dave retired from Franklin Athletic Club, in Southfield, Michigan, one of the premier tennis and fitness clubs in the country. Through the years Dave enjoyed playing golf and tennis (with friends in the tight knit “tennis group”), duck hunting, and sporting clays. Dave and Carole were also active in community theater at the Avon Players in Rochester, Michigan where they met many of their dearest friends. Dave directed and performed in many productions throughout the years. Dave’s other interests included travel—he and Carole were fortunate to travel to Africa and throughout Europe and the United States. He also enjoyed classic cars, including his Concourse winning 1967 XKE Jaguar.

Dave especially enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Lost Lake Woods Club in Lincoln, Michigan. His children and grandchildren have many happy memories of summer golf camp, 4-wheeling, ice fishing and spending time playing Euchre and Dominos at the cabin.

Dave will be remembered by his wife, Carole; children: Stephanie, Peter (Julie), and Michelle (Dave); grandchildren: Josh (Lauren), Kyle (Stephanie), Matt (Holly), Jamie, and Kurt; and six great grandchildren. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his sister (Maureen), his brother-in-law (Larry) and a grandson, Adam.

Following Dave’s wishes, he will be cremated. Those considering a memorial donation in Dave’s name, might consider donating to the Avon Players Refresh for the 75th campaign. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.squiresfuneralhome.com
