Oakland County Veterans Resource Fair set for April 25 in Troy

The Oakland County Veterans Resource Fair is 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 25, at the Troy Civic Center, 3179 Livernois Road, Troy. Representatives will be on site to serve all veterans, active duty and their families with resources including free food boxes and the following:

• Oakland County Veterans’ Services-will provide information and claims assistance regarding veterans benefits and give away Meijer gift cards — to be eligible, must be a veteran and Oakland County resident and must present a copy of DD214.

• Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency-Printing DD214’s on site.

• Detroit VA Healthcare System-Offering registration help and exams for non-enrolled veterans.

• Oakland Community Health Network-Addressing any behavioral health issues and concerns, including behavioral health needs for children.

• Oakland County Neighborhood & Housing Development-Helping residents with housing counseling.

• Oakland County Michigan Works! -Providing veterans and their families with career planning, training programs, job search resources and the opportunity to meet with an employment specialist.

• Oakland County Parks & Recreation-Giving out free annual vehicle permits.

• VA Suicide Prevention-Providing free gun locks.

• Ride SMART-Providing information on their veteran transportation program.

Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency staff available to attend events for veterans

Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) staff members are available to attend and/or speak at events for veterans or events that involve veteran issues. To request MVAA staff to speak at an event, participate on a panel or present a session, staff a booth or table, provide brochures and information on health care, education, employment and other topics concerning veterans, or to have a veteran-focused event added to the MVAA website, fill out the event invitation form at: www.michigan.gov/mvaa/ forms/event-invitation.
