Cimarron Opera adds ‘Fumbelina’ showing

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

NORMAN — Cimarron Opera will present a special public performance of “Fumbelina” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Nancy O’ Brian Center for the Performing Arts, 1809 Stubbeman Ave. Tickets are $5 at the door.

“Fumbelina” is a story that centers on a young girl who is quite a klutz, but who finds that she’s not so clumsy after all once she starts thinking of others and stops worrying about her own shortcomings. Music is from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

“Fumbelina” is part of Cimarron Opera’s Scholastic Opera Tour, which has brought performances to schools and libraries statewide for 31 years.

This performance is in conjunction with daytime performances of the show, which will be presented the same day to children in the third grade in Norman Public Schools.

“Cimarron Opera’s day- time performances for third-graders have been a Norman tradition for more than 30 years,” said Shari Ransley, executive director.

“‘Fumbelina’ is such a fun story with great music, and the cast is so spectacular, that we wanted entire families to be able to see it.”

The Scholastic Opera Tour is made possible with assistance from the Norman Arts Council, Oklahoma Arts Council, the Kirkpatrick Foundation and Allied Arts.
