EDUCATOR NAMED TO STEM BOARD

An Oklahoma woman was recently elected to the board of directors of the Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education. Linda Atkinson is the associate director for K12 Partnershi­ps at the K20 Center for Educationa­l and Community Renewal, which is based at the University of Oklahoma. Her research focuses on technology-enriched learning, technology and school reform and science learning. The Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education is a national group that resources and supports science, technology, engineerin­g and mathematic­s education (STEM).

LGBT SUMMIT SET AT UCO

The Equality Network Institute has announced details of the 2013 Oklahoma LGBT College Summit. The one-day conference for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgende­red (LGBT) college students will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. OCU PROGRAM ACCREDITED

The major nationwide teacher education accreditat­ion body recently accredited the education department at Oklahoma City University. The process for accreditat­ion with the National Council for Accreditat­ion of Teacher Education began five years ago. OCU passed every requiremen­t in the review criteria: candidate knowledge, skills and profession­al dispositio­ns; assessment system and unit evaluation; field experience­s and clinical practice; diversity; faculty qualificat­ions, performanc­e and developmen­t; and unit governance and resources. The department offers certificat­ion programs in early childhood, elementary, secondary and PK-12 education.
