Edmond Santa Fe gets revenge on PC
Edmond Santa Fe’s girls basketball team had waited a long time for its revenge.
The Class 6A No. 1 Wolves finally got it Tuesday, beating No. 10 Putnam City 52-38.
On Nov. 30, the Pirates beat Santa Fe 59-58, the Wolves’ first loss in nearly two years.
“We realized what happened in that game and fixed it,” Santa Fe coach Paul Bass said. “They were focused all this week getting ready for this one, and that definitely showed in how we played defense.”
That defensive intensity showed from the outset, as the Wolves allowed Putnam City just two first-quarter points, those coming on free throws in the final seconds.
“I felt like we did everything we needed to do in this game,” Santa Fe’s Cameerah Graves said. “The effort was there this time, and we worked together as a team.”
Santa Fe led 12-1 after one and 25-8 at halftime.
Graves and Aahliyah Jackson each had 11 to lead Santa Fe.
Bass said he discussed with his team the dangers of thinking too much about getting back at the Pirates and not about what caused them to lose the earlier game.
“We talked about making sure we weren’t just fired up to beat them but that we were focused on doing what we needed to do to be successful,” Bass said. “We had a plan to slow down certain players and to play defense the way we had lately and that’s what we did.”
EDMOND MEMORIAL RUNS PAST MWC
With several young players still finding their way at the varsity level, the No. 17 Edmond Memorial girls have had moments of brilliance and moments of difficulty throughout the season.
Tuesday night was the former. Sophomore Jenny Roy scored 21 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 47-34 win at No. 8 Midwest City.
“I wouldn’t say we’ve struggled lately, but we’ve lost some games we probably shouldn’t have,” coach Dandy Peeler said. “I know we have lots of potential; we’re just not using our weapons correctly. Tonight we figured it out.”
The Bulldogs jumped to a 26-12 halftime lead, and held off a late Midwest City rally with a strong finish.
The Bombers cut the lead to 38-33 in the final minutes, but Memorial closed with a 9-1 run to end it.
“That was a learning situation, because we haven’t been up, where we had to run some clock, but still be aggressive,” Peeler said. “I’m proud that they figured it out, made some adjustments and stayed aggressive.”
Andee Decker added 10 points for Memorial. Kara Partridge had 15 for Midwest City.
HICKS LIFTS CHOCTAW IN OT
Choctaw’s Kylee Hicks was 7 of 8 from the free-throw line in overtime, helping lift the Yellowjackets to a 47-44 win at Yukon.
Hicks scored 15 points, all after halftime, to lead Choctaw. Sydney Wyatt added 14.
Yukon’s Audrey Hayes hit a pair of free throws with less than two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
Abby Boyd led Yukon with 14 points.
CLASSEN COMES BACK TO KNOCK OFF DOUGLASS
Kennedy Williams had 19 points, and Maya Thompson added 12 as Classen erased a first-half deficit to beat Douglass 39-38.
Classen trailed 24-20 at halftime but took control in the third, outscoring the Trojans 11-4 to take the lead.
Nia Stepeny had 17 to lead Douglass.

Millwood scored 37 points in the first quarter and beat U.S. Grant 104-14. Teanna Reid led the Falcons with 19. Three Millwood players outscored U.S. Grant by themselves. ... Gioya Carter had 24 points, 14 in the first half, as Carl Albert beat Harrah 55-41. Daesha Pearson added 17. ... Shawnta Johnson and Kinsey Reeves combined for 41 points as Hennessey beat Watonga 65-41. Johnson led the Eagles with 22, while Reeves added 19. ... Lanesia Williams had 18, T’ona Edwards 16 and Chanel Akins 14 as Northeast beat Star Spencer 69-47. ... Erika Wakefield and Carter Cloud combined for 51 points in Heritage Hall’s 73-31 blowout of John Marshall. Wakefield had 28 and Cloud 23. Heritage Hall led 23-6 after one.
