Midwest City wins 1-vs.-2 showdown

Second-ranked Edmond Memorial succeeded in forcing top-ranked Midwest City to play an ugly game, rather than its usual run-and-gun style.

But the Bombers showed that they can win ugly, too, topping Memorial 52-46 Tuesday night in boys basketball at Midwest City.

“Anytime our guys get challenged, they figure something out,” Midwest City coach Dewayne Bradley said. “That’s why I like coaching these guys. That was an ugly game, and sometimes, good teams have to win ugly games.”

Kesean Brown had 15 points for the Bombers, who improved to 14-0. Brown was 6-of-6 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, and Midwest City was 13of-14 as a team in the final period, helping to put the game away.

Daryck Jones had 11 of his 13 points in the second quarter as Midwest City overcame an early 10-point deficit to lead 25-22 at halftime.

Shaquille Morris finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds for Edmond Memorial.

PC OVERPOWERS SANTA FE

Putnam City was dominant for about five minutes of Tuesday’s game at Edmond Santa Fe. The rest of the game, the Wolves were better.

Putnam City’s two terrific stretches, though, wound up being enough to help the Class 6A No. 3 Pirates pull off a 66-59 win over No. 10 Santa Fe.

The Pirates were down by three entering the fourth quarter but turned up the pressure to start the fourth, scoring the first 12 points in the quarter to regain control.

The stretch last just more than three minutes into the quarter. Putnam City’s pace in that stretch was reminiscent of the way it started the game.

Less than two minutes in, the Pirates led 13-2. But Santa Fe quickly jumped back into the game, turning the tide with a 17-3 finish to the quarter to take the lead.

Ronnie Boyce had 21 points, and David Bush added 17 for Putnam City.

Daron Mims came off the bench to lead Santa Fe with 19, while Curran Scott added 16, 10 in the first quarter.

PC WEST WINS

Putnam City West was able to overcome a 36-point outing from No. 10 Edmond North’s Carlbe Ervin for a 92-83 victory.

Fourteenth-ranked PC West got 22 points apiece from Omega Harris and Latron Jolly, with Tyson Jolly adding 20.

Douglass’ Stephen Clark scored 52 points in a 116-28 win over Classen SAS, giving him at least 40 points in four straight games. ... Southeast forward Rashawn Thomas had 41 points in a 106-53 win over Northwest Classen. ... Four Heritage Hall players scored in double-figures in a 71-49 win over John Marshall.
