Teen, 16, arrested in robbery attempt
A John Marshall High School student was arrested on a complaint of attempted armed robbery at the credit union inside the school, according to a police report released Tuesday.
RayQwonn Chatman, 16, was arrested Friday after he told the teller at the Tinker Federal Credit Union on the school’s campus to give him money, police said.
The teller told police Chatman had his hands inside the pockets of his hoodie and raised his right hand up to give the appearance of a gun in his pocket.
The teller told police she warned Chatman he could get in a lot of trouble for doing that and another witness told Chatman to leave.
Chatman refused initially, but left after a while, the report stated.
Police found Chatman in the school gym and arrested him. He remained in custody Tuesday with bail set at $20,000.
The teller told police she did not think Chatman had a gun, but she wasn’t sure.
The school has metal detectors and an armed school resource officer.
The Tinker Federal Credit Union branch at John Marshall High School opened in August as part of the school’s academy of finance.
John Marshall students can work at the credit union branch as part of career training.
The credit union operates like a typical branch and is open weekdays to students, parents and district employees.
