Two paramedics are arrested after fight

Two off-duty paramedics were arrested Sunday after a fight broke out at a union meeting, Oklahoma City police said Tuesday.

Police responded about 10:45 p.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon call at Old Chicago, according to the report.

Erik Kilmer, 38, told police he and David Austin Wright, 34, both paramedics with the Emergency Medical Services Authority, had been arguing over union issues and went outside the restaurant at 2125 SW 74.

The argument escalated quickly, and Kilmer made a comment referencing himself and Wright’s girlfriend, according to police.

Kilmer told police Wright then pulled a semiautomatic pistol from his waistband and pistolwhipped him two times.

Kilmer’s left eye was swollen and bloody after the altercation, according to the report.

Another EMSA employee told police he tried to break up the fight twice but Kilmer started swinging his fists at Wright, then Wright pulled something from his waistband and swung it at Kilmer a few times.

nor Wright wanted to press charges against the other, according to the report.

Police found Kilmer also had a firearm and arrested both men on complaints of possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

“I just don’t get it, I did nothing wrong here. I was pistol-whipped,” Kilmer told police.

Kilmer and Wright have concealed carry permits, but it is illegal to carry a firearm while intoxicated.

Kilmer refused EMSA services and was taken to a hospital by police before being taken to the Oklahoma County jail, according to the report.

Both Kilmer and Wright were released on bail. They have been suspended from work without pay pending the police investigation, EMSA spokeswoman Lara O’Leary said.

Kilmer was hired in June 2011, and Wright was hired in November 2007, O’Leary said.
