Boys’ mother recalls ‘class clown’

- BY ANDREW KNITTLE

MOORE — Mikki Davis said her son, Kyle, was an outgoing boy with a big appetite — for food and for life — who loved to be with his family.

The 8-year-old was among the seven students killed when a monster tornado tore apart the Plaza Towers Elementary school in Moore on May 20.

With high hopes for his own future, he excelled at school while still playing the role of “class clown.”

But for Davis’ family, the boy will always be 8.

The boy’s mother said she has plenty of memories, though.

“He was a big soccer player. ... I spent a lot of my time taking him to and from practices and games. It was a big part of our life,” Mikki said, just two days after her son’s death. “He also liked to go every year to the Monster Jam truck shows. ... Gravedigger was his favorite.”

Like most boys, Kyle spent a lot of time playing video games and messing around with other electronics, but his mother said some of his best times were at the family’s Eufaula lake house.

“He loved to be out there riding his fourwheeler,” Mikki said. “He wasn’t the type to just sit around inside all day.”

Mikki described her son as a “class clown,” but said he excelled in the classroom.

“Last year, he was the top speller in the second grade,” she said. “He always made A’s and B’s in school, I never had to worry about that.”

Mikki said her son was a true “mama’s boy” who was also begging for food ... like most other 8-yearold boys will do.

“Everybody loved Kyle,” his mother said. “His blue eyes and his smile would melt your heart. He’d do anything for you.”

Kyle’s sister, Kaylee, also was in Plaza Towers Elementary School when the tornado ripped the school apart.

“She was also in the tornado, but she survived and was pulled out,” her mother said. “So we feel very lucky for that.”

Kyle, described in his obituary as “adventurous and competitive,” was born June 16, 2004, in Norman.
