How to get help

-

Organizations and people are offering a variety of help to people affected by recent storms. Here are new listings, with a complete list online.

Nursing mothers

The Norman Family La Leche League, a breastfeeding support group, has breast pumps, breast pads, burp cloths, breast-feeding clothing, nursing bras, nursing slings, milk storage supplies and numerous other items for breastfeeding mothers who have lost these things in the recent tornado activity.

Hygeia Medical Group Inc. has sent two new Hygeia electric breast pumps and five Personal Care Kits so that mothers in a shelter can share a single breast pump, or these can be used by an individual mother. All are available free to help breast-feeding mothers impacted by the tornadoes to maintain or rebuild their milk supply and continue breast-feeding during this time of stress.

Currently, all items are being held by Sandy Moore-Furneaux, as other agencies do not have space. All items are free to breastfeeding mothers impacted by the tornado. To gain access to these items, mothers or support agencies may go online to the Norman La Leche League’s Facebook page at https://www. facebook.com/LaLeche LeagueNormanOK?fref=ts, email Moore-Furneaux at LLLSandy@yahoo.com or call 579-4667.

Pets

Pets displaced by the recent tornadoes still are being housed in temporary animal shelters. Pet owners may look for their pets by visiting one of the sheltering facilities at:

Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 615 E Robinson, Norman; Animal Resource Center, 7941 S Interstate 35 Service Road; and Oklahoma City Animal Shelter, 2811 SE 29.

Pet owners are asked to bring proof of ownership when claiming pets, such as veterinary records or photographs. The temporary shelters will remain open until June 19. People also may search for their pets on the web by using www.okclostpets.com or www.oda.state.ok.us/ tornado-relief.htm.

Car seat safety

The Children’s Center is organizing a car seat giveaway Saturday for those whose car seats were lost or damaged in the recent tornadoes. Joining the nonprofit center in the effort are Safe Kids Oklahoma and Britax USA, the company that provided the car seats and other baby items to give away to those who show proof of address that they live in one of the affected areas.

The event, which is part of a National Safety Certification Course hosted by The Children’s Center and Safe Kids Oklahoma, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Platt College, 201 N Eastern in Moore. Technicians also will be available to conduct car seat safety checks to ensure car seats are properly installed and the right size and type of seat is being used.

For more information on the Child Safety Seat Checkup, please contact Safe Kids Oklahoma at 945-6709.
