tough, but I was trying to give it my all for the team.”

LSU put the game away with a six-run ninth inning. Before that Oklahoma had chances to get back in the game, but couldn’t capitalize.

In the sixth inning, Jack Mayfield was hit by a pitch before Matt Oberste walked and stole second, putting both runners in scoring position with two out. LSU brought in reliever Nick Rumbelow, who struck out Hector Lorenzana looking to end the threat.

With a man on in the seventh, Garrett Carey launched a fly to deep left, where LSU’s Raph Rhymes went high on the wall to make the catch. The play saved a run, and got LSU out of the inning.

“I thought we had a chance to get on their starter early on,” Golloway said. “We had a chance. We just needed a key hit here or there, but that’s baseball.”

LSU took a 2-1 lead with an unearned run in the third. Mark Laird singled to right, but Hunter Haley kicked the ball into the corner allowing Laird to take third. Alex Bregman followed with a routine grounder to first that got through Oberste, and Laird came home with LSU’s second run.

The lead grew to 3-1 in the fourth when Jared Fos- ter’s single to center brought JaCoby Jones home. Jones had doubled with one out, and taken third on a ground out.

Both teams played small ball to put up early runs.

OU’s Craig Akin singled to left to start the first. He took second on Jack Mayfield’s sacrifice bunt, and scored on Max White’s single to right.

LSU started its second with a Rhymes single. After Christian Ibarra’s sacrifice, Jones singled Rhymes home to tie the score, 1-1.
