Dallas-based group to have workshop

The Dallas Genealogic­al Society 2013 Summer Institute, “Bits of Yesterday: Using Maps & Records to Complete Your Family Story,” is August 2 and 3 at J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 1515 Young St., Dallas.

Institute programs will focus on using land records, maps and other government records to help researcher­s complete their family story. Pamela Boyer and Richard Sayre’s topics will include: “Our National Treasure: The Library of Congress,” “Remote Research in the Databases of the Daughters of the American Revolution Genealogic­al Research System,” “Land Entry Papers and Records of the General Land Office,” “Sharing Your Family History,” “Maps: Where to Find Them and How to Use Them,” “Using Topographi­c and Other Maps,” and “Google Earth for Genealogis­ts.”

Registrati­on for society members is $140 if received by June 30 and $180 after June 30. Nonmember registrati­on is $190 if received by June 30 and $230 if received after June 30. Fee includes syllabus and lunch.

The Edmond Genealogy Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. June 17 at the Edmond Historical Museum, 431 S. Boulevard, Edmond.

Bill Welge will present “Preserving Family Treasures and Paper Heirlooms.” Welge, a certified archivist with the Academy of Certified Archivists, was director of the Okla- homa Historical Society’s Research Division. He recently accepted the director position at the Office of American Indian Cultural & Preservati­on.

The Tulsa Genealogic­al Society mini-workshop, “Using Your Family Research to Write Your Family History,” will be at 6:30 p.m. June 17 at 9136 E 31, Tulsa.

M. Carolyn Steele author of “Preserving Family Legends for Future Generation­s” and Jae Jaegar, “Tulsa Annals” periodical editor will be the speakers.
