A routine traffic stop this week led to an arrest in the homicide of a woman found dead in a burning car

Police and firefighters found Laquisha Danielle Towers, 27, in a car engulfed in flames early March 2 at Willow Cliff Apartments, in the 5400 block of Willow Cliff Road, police Capt. Dexter Nelson said.

Tuesday, an Oklahoma City police officer pulled over a car on SW 44 near S May Avenue. The officer discovered the passenger, Ernest Williams, 31, had an active murder warrant from Oklahoma City.

The officer arrested Williams, who is described in a police incident report as a transient. He was booked into the Oklahoma County jail Wednesday, a jail official said.

Court documents detailing the investigation into Towers’ death are sealed, Nelson said. The investigation into the homicide continues.

Two homicides happened March 2 that police consider related crimes, Nelson said.

About five hours before Towers was found dead, Raheem Murphy, 22, was stabbed at The Office, a club at 5929 N May Ave. He later died.

Ricky Cooper, 32, was arrested in connection with Murphy’s death.

Police believe the crimes are related to gang activity, Nelson said.
