AT&T will create about 100 positions in Oklahoma City

AT&T will bring 100 new project management jobs to Oklahoma City as it expands its business ser- vices division.

“Oklahoma is a great place to do business,” said Bryan Gonterman, president of AT&T Oklahoma. “Our company could have placed these jobs anywhere in the country, and we chose Oklahoma City. We plan to create more than 100 jobs in Oklahoma. The friendly business climate, high quality of life and excellent work-

The jobs will put AT&T in a position to take advantage of state and local job creation incentives such as Oklahoma’s Quality Jobs program, which gives qualified companies rebates on up to five percent of new taxable payroll.

The company is now in talks about available incentives with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, Gonterman said.

The announcement was made at the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber in a news conference Thursday attended by Gov. Mary Fallin and Mayor Mick Cornett.

In her remarks, Fallin praised low taxes and workers’ compensation reform for making the state an attractive place for businesses to expand.

“We have worked very hard to create a businessfriendly environment that can attract employers like AT&T,” Fallin said.

The average pay for the jobs will be $41,000 a year. Gonterman said 25 people are already hired and that he hopes to add another 50 or so by the end of the year. About 25 more would be hired after the start of 2014, he said.

AT&T employs about 4,000 statewide, including about 2,000 in Oklahoma City. The new operations will be based at the AT&T center, 14101 Wireless Way, near the John Kilpatrick Turnpike and North Portland Avenue, where 600 employees are currently stationed.

For Oklahoma City resident Renee Pitts, one of the new project managers AT&T has already hired, the jobs mean an opportunity for her to advance her career in the metro area.

“I love Oklahoma City, so I am really glad that AT&T is expanding here,” Pitts said.
