A convenience store clerk was in critical condition after a robber struck him in the head with a two-by-four early Friday, police said.

Oklahoma City police arrested Donald Earl Frazier Jr., 35, about 11 a.m. in connection with the robbery and another one committed Monday.

Frazier is suspected of hitting a Cambridge Inn clerk in the head with a brick as she attempted to rent him a room Monday, police said.

Police were called Friday to Circle K, 2840 SW 59, in reference to a store clerk bleeding from his nose. The caller said the cash register was “messed up,” according to the report.

Surveillance video showed the suspect, wearing a LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, entered the store about 3:45 a.m., according to the report. The man walked up to the clerk and knocked him down with the board.

After attempting to open the register, the suspect ripped it out and fled with the register and an unknown amount of money, according to the report. The two-by-four was left behind the counter.

Police found the clerk bleeding from his nose and right ear and with swelling on the right side of his face. He was behind the counter and attempting to serve customers, the report said. He responded to police in a mumbled voice. Police described him as confused and struggling to put words and phrases together.

The victim was taken to Integris Southwest Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman said the victim is in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Police have been unable to reach his family.

Police were alerted to the location of a man matching the suspect’s description. Frazier was taken into custody as he was boarding a city bus at SW 59 and Pennsylvania Avenue, police said.
