Edmond North finishes unbeaten regular season

Playing at Edmond Santa Fe, on the Wolves’ Senior Night, Evans wanted to see his team take control early.

The Huskies met the task, giving up just two points in the first quarter. The 16-point lead was all the cushion they’d need on the way to a 74-60 win to close out a 23-0 regular season Friday night.

“We knew we needed to jump out early on them and stay on top of them the whole game,” Evans said. “We feel good about this win. We’re 23-0 now, but going into the playoffs next week, we’re 0-0.”

Evans had just seven points at halftime, but was perfect on 10 second-half free throws and hit a pair of big 3-pointers while Santa Fe was trying to rally.

College coaches might still be doubting him, but Putnam City North senior Micah Speight continues to prove himself as a Division I talent.

The 5-foot-9 senior guard turned in a triple-double in the Panthers’ 95-24 rout of Ponca City, scoring a school-record 50 points to go with 13 steals and 11 assists. He made 11 3-pointers.

LUTHER SHUTS DOWN MILLWOOD

Luther played flawless basketball for an eight-minute stretch, and it was enough to pull away from perennial power Millwood for a 62-38 victory and Class 3A district tournament title.

The Lions (14-10) held Millwood (6-15) scoreless the final four minutes of the second quarter and the first four minutes of the third. Meanwhile, they piled up 17 points to take a 38-15 lead before Millwood scored in the third.

“Just scoring and boxing out and doing what we have to do to get the job done,” freshman said.

Grisby scored 11 points off the bench in his first career playoff game. He also had eight rebounds and two blocks.

Senior led Luther with 15 points, and junior followed with 13. The Lions led by as much as 26 in the second half.

PC WEST’S ROBINSON CAPS BIG WEEK WITH WIN

In a week where he received 10 Division I scholarshi­p offers for football, Putnam City West junior reminded everyone he can play basketball, too.
