Guard’s new director of military support named
In a recent ceremony, the Oklahoma Army National Guard promoted an experienced officer and proven leader to the rank of colonel and named him as the lead for all domestic operations for the Oklahoma National Guard.
Col. Hiram Tabler, of Moore, has served in many roles over the course of his 29 years with the Oklahoma Army National Guard. His professionalism and dedication have prepared him to serve as the director of military support.
In his new role, Tabler is responsible for coordination of the Guard’s support to government and civilian authorities as they respond to wildfires, snowstorms or destruction left by tornadoes or floods.
Tabler began his military career in 1986 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Tabler said he is proud of the opportunities he has had to aid others in their time of need.
“You have an impact on other people, and to be able to assist others in a time of need is an awesome thing. I have been fortunate to assist others, and it is very rewarding.”
Tabler’s interest in the military was passed down to him from his father, who served in the Army for 20 years. “My father was in World War II,” Tabler said. “He did a 20-year military career and retired. I was inspired to follow in his footsteps and continue the legacy he started.”
Maj. Gen. Robbie Asher, adjutant general for Oklahoma, said he is thankful to have Tabler as his director of military support
“Oklahomans should rest assured knowing that in the event of another catastrophic event, the Oklahoma National Guard is ready to respond with the people, equipment and expertise necessary to overcome any challenge,” Asher said.
