Henson expected to join staff as offensive analyst
COWBOYS FOOTBALL JOURNAL
STILLWATER — Former Oklahoma State offensive lineman and assistant coach is expected to join the Cowboys’ staff as an offensive analyst.
Henson was an OSU offensive lineman from 1993 to 1997 and served as the Cowboys’ tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator from 2001 to 2004. He was previously the offensive coordinator at Missouri.
OSU coach told reporters Monday that Henson “was coming in tomorrow to interview” and is “the leading candidate right now.”
A source told The Oklahoman Henson will be officially added to the staff as soon as Tuesday. He will be an offensive analyst — a role with no hands-on coaching or off-campus recruiting that aids in game planning. Henson replaces Darrell
who was hired as Houston’s receivers coach and recruiting coordinator in January.
“(Henson) has a wealth of experience being in the SEC for a number of years and obviously coordinating at Missouri,” Gundy said. “He’s been well coached. He was trained not only as a player, but as a coach, by
Les is one of the best rungame offensive line coaches that I’ve ever been around.
“So I’m excited about (Henson) coming in here if it works out. He’ll build a relationship with the offensive staff, … and hopefully help our football team if we can get him up and get him going.”
GUNDY SAYS J.W. WALSH TO TCU A GOOD MOVE
When former OSU quarterback
accepted a graduate assistant position at TCU in January, Cowboy fans voiced their displeasure he didn’t get his coaching start with the Cowboys.
Gundy provided some perspective on why Walsh leaving Stillwater wasn’t such a bad thing.
“If you put yourself in his situation, all of us, and the lifestyle that you lived in your last semester in college with your buddies. Then you have to come back a month later and you’re telling them what to do as a coach? Probably not the best thing,” Gundy said. “So I think it’s good for him to get around some other programs.”
SEVERAL PLAYERS NO LONGER LISTED ON ROSTER
The 2016 spring roster revealed that four notable Cowboys are no longer part of the program: Receiver Curry, defensive end
cornerback and safety
Curry, a junior and older brother of OSU cornerback had four career receptions and appeared in 11 games last season.
Brown, a redshirt freshman, was a four-star recruit in OSU’s 2015 signing class. Hardeman, a sophomore, recorded 11 tackles in 20 game appearances mostly on special teams.
Robertson, a junior, was also primarily a special teams contributor who tallied 25 career tackles.
