OU commitment Draper will play in All-American Bowl

NORMAN — Oklahoma 2017 linebacker commitment Levi Draper accepted an invitation to play in next year’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

Draper announced the news on his Twitter account.

The Collinsvil­le standout originally committed to Oklahoma State last summer before changing his mind and giving the Sooners his verbal pledge in November.

He also holds scholarshi­p offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson and Florida State. Draper finished last season with 143 tackles and four sacks, helping lead his team to the Class 5A state championsh­ip game.

OU, DAMPHOUSSE RECEIVE NFF HONOR

The University of Oklahoma and are being recognized by the National Football Foundation “for their efforts in fostering excellence among the student-athletes,” according to a news release issued by the NFF.

Damphousse, OU’s Faculty Athletics Representa­tive, will be presented with a commemorat­ive plaque and OU will receive $5,000 for student academic support services at a Friday luncheon.

“Kelly Damphousse has been a critical liaison between academics and athletics at Oklahoma,” NFF president said in a statement.

The NFF has partnered with Fidelity Investment­s since 2011 to recognize Faculty Athletics Representa­tives at each school with a member of the NFF’s annual National Scholar-Athlete Class.

The recognitio­n for Damphousse and OU comes because of place in the National Scholar-Athlete Class. Darlington, who wrapped up his college athletic eligibilit­y in January, graduated with his bachelor’s degree in less than three years and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at OU.

He received the 2015 Wuerffel Trophy and the 2015 William V. Campbell Trophy, which is considered by many to be the “Academic Heisman.”

Darlington, from Apopka, Fla., was the Sooners’ starting center for the past two seasons.

Damphousse is dean of OU’s College of Arts and Sciences and has been a professor at the university since 1997. He’s been OU’s Faculty Athletics Representa­tive since 2012.

SOONERS LAND 2017 COMMITMENT FROM 3-STAR ATHLETE

Oklahoma picked up its 12th commitment for its 2017 recruiting class Thursday evening with

verbal pledge. Calcaterra announced his commitment on Twitter.

He is ranked as a three-star athlete by Rivals.com, although he is projected as a wide receiver/ tight end. Calcaterra currently plays at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

Calcaterra chose the Sooners over offers from Boston College, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Northweste­rn, Oregon State, Texas A&M and Utah, among others.

His commitment could be just the beginning of a very fruitful weekend for the Sooners, who are hosting several top prospects for Saturday’s spring game.
