Dodgers’ no-hit bid falls short in win over Sounds
OKC DODGERS 2, SOUNDS 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Three Oklahoma City Dodgers pitchers combined to hold the Nashville Sounds without a hit over the first eight innings in a 2-1 victory Saturday night at First Tennessee Park.
Dodgers (2-1) righthander Sam LeCure opened the game with four perfect innings. Lefthander Ian Thomas, who was also perfect except for a sixth-inning walk, followed with three scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season. Left-hander Adam Liberatore struck out two in a spotless eighth inning before right-hander Chin-hui Tsao came on to earn the save in the ninth despite giving up one run on two hits.
Weatherford native and former University of Oklahoma standout Dillon Overton got the start on the mound for the Sounds (1-2). The lefty tossed four innings, surrendering seven hits, one earned run and striking out eight.
The Dodgers’ offense got on the board early as Jose Tabata singled home Elian Herrera in the top of the first. OKC scored what would be the decisive run in the third when Herrera scored again, this time as a result of an error by Sounds second baseman Joey Wendle on a Tabata grounder.
Nashville’s Renato Nunez led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double off Tsao to break up the no-hit bid.
Former OSU standout Corey Brown had a pair of extra-base hits for OKC.
Th two teams will meet again Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
