Ana Llanusa, Choctaw
For the third straight season, Ana Llanusa’s shot total fell, but her shooting percentage rose.
It’s all part of the plan for the Choctaw star junior who remains committed to Oklahoma.
Llanusa shot 51 percent this season while leading the Yellowjackets to a third straight state tournament appearance. She is also on The Oklahoman’s Super 5 team for a third straight year.
Llanusa spoke with The Oklahoman about the season, her improvement and more.
Q: What was the team’s high point this season?
A: I think the high point would have to be winning the Tournament of Champions. Every team has a point where they just play great together and I felt like we just really showed what we could do when we were at that tournament.
It was a lot different. It just showed that anybody obviously can win the state tournament. It was a lot different not getting to stay and have another game. But I’m excited for next season and my last year.
I put a lot of the blame on myself because that’s what leaders are supposed to do. I could have gotten my team maybe before the game more focused, during warmups more focused, during the game talked to them more. So I put it on my shoulders, too. It is a team thing so it had a lot to do with everybody, but my situation as well.
Ball handling is the next step, creating for myself. I have to learn how to get to the rim, getting past my defender or shooting my jump shot and still increasing my shooting percentage. 5-11
