ROOMS TO GROW
PLANS WOULD PUT 15 HOTELS TOTAL IN BRICKTOWN AREA
The number of hotels being built or set to be built in Bricktown continues to rise and is up to 10 in addition to five already open.
Development of the former Body Works Collision site in Bricktown is being expanded from one to three hotels and a four-story, 950-space garage with construction expected to start this fall.
Developer Fred Mazaheri previously announced plans for a nine-story Canopy by Hilton hotel, which will front Charlie Christian Avenue across from the Oklahoma City Dodgers parking lot. Mazaheri said Tuesday the garage will be built alongside the Canopy, while construction of a six-story La Quinta and a six-story Cambria Hotel will begin next year.
Richard Brown is set to present an application for the 147-room Canopy hotel at an upcoming Bricktown Urban Design Committee hearing. The 114,950-square-foot hotel is Hilton’s new entry into the boutique hospitality market and among the first to be built. It will include meeting rooms, a cafe and bar, fitness center and rooftop lounge.
Bricktown already is home to five hotels. The La Quinta and Cambria bring the number of hotels being built or planned there to nine plus a 10th set for just outside of Bricktown at Reno Avenue east of Interstate 235.
A five-story Springhill Suites is to open this year at Charlie Christian and Sheridan avenues. Construction began this month on a 142-room AC by Marriott and a 134-room Hyatt Place at the northeast corner of Joe Carter and Sheridan avenues.
Atul Patel, who is building the Springhill Suites, is working to develop a second, adjoining hotel. Yet another hotel, details not yet disclosed, is being planned by Tulsa developer Andy Patel for the southeast corner of Oklahoma and Sheridan avenues.
On Bricktown’s eastern fringe, a 137-room Staybridge Suites is set to be built at the northeast corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Reno Avenue. Another hotel, details not disclosed, is planned on the north side of Reno Avenue east of I-235.
