ENERGY DRAW WITH SAINT LOUIS

Timo Pitter was not the OKC Energy player who was supposed to be breaking records during Saturday’s regular season finale.

Pitter scored 18 seconds into the match, but the Energy was unable to get the full three points as it drew Saint Louis 2-2.

With the draw, the Energy clinched the seventh seed in the USL Western Conference playoffs. The Energy is winless in its past six matches.

Pitter’s goal is the fastest goal scored in club history. Forward Andy Craven made a quick run down the left wing seconds after kickoff and passed it across the top of the box to Pitter, who then curled his shot into the left corner of the net.

Energy goalkeeper Cody Laurendi, who received a call-up from the Puerto Rico national team this week, was attempting to set a USL regular season record with his 13th shutout of the season.

Laurendi’s back line failed him in his quest for the record-breaking shutout in the 20th minute. Saint Louis midfielder Shiloh Tshuma’s was allowed to run unmarked into the box where, after Laurendi had initially saved forward Jamiel Hardware’s shot, Tshuma was able to tap the rebound into the net.

Saint Louis took a 2-1 lead two minutes later off a corner kick. Danni König equalized in the 26th minute with what was the match’s final goal.

RAYO FINDS EQUALIZER IN STOPPAGE TIME

Rayo OKC has flipped the script in the final act of its 2016 matches.

Midfielder Michel converted a penalty kick in the third minute of second half stoppage time to allow Rayo to draw Jacksonville Armada 1-1 and earn a road point.

After losing leads late in three fall season matches, Rayo has equalized in the closing 10 minutes in each of its past two matches with Michel penalty kicks. Michel has scored six penalties this season, the most in the NASL, and has 10 goals this season.

Rayo defender Futty Danso earned the penalty after Jacksonville defender Karl Ouimette fouled Danso in the box. Ouimette, who is on loan from MLS’ New York Red Bulls, was subbed on only one minute before committing the penalty.

Jacksonville scored in the 19th minute with winger Charles Eloundou’s right-footed shot from outside the box.

Rayo returns home next Sunday when it hosts Carolina Railhawks at 6 p.m.
