Nolan Boyd picks up 100th win in OSU rout

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

STILLWATER — Topranked Oklahoma State breezed through its Big 12 showdown with No. 19 South Dakota State on Sunday.

The Cowboys (8-0) topped the Jackrabbits, 31-9, at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The dual was highlighted by senior Nolan

Boyd’s technical fall victory over Martin Mueller to give the former Deer Creek High School standout his 100th career victory.

“It felt great,” Boyd said. “I mean, with a little bit of pressure. There’s always a negative thought you have to fight off, and I think that’s what it is was; just fighting off the negative thought, being positive and taking these matches as opportunities.”

The 184-pound Boyd became the 40th Oklahoma State wrestler to reach 100 career wins.

His weekend started with a tech fall win over West Virginia’s Kyle Rogers on Friday night. His Sunday technical fall earned him his fourth bonus-point victory in his last five starts for the Cowboys.

“He had a couple of opponents this weekend that allowed him to do the things that he did,” OSU coach John

Smith said. “We expected really lopsided scores in both of his matches, and that’s what he delivered. I thought he looked really good on his feet. That was probably the best I’ve seen him look on his feet in today’s match.”

Along with Boyd, 125pound freshman Nick Piccininni and 149-pound senior Anthony Collica recorded technical fall victories on Sunday. Heavyweight senior

Austin Schafer capped the dual with a pin win over

Alex Macki in the first period.

It was Schafer’s second fall of the year.

Oklahoma State next faces Missouri in Columbia at 7 p.m. Friday.

OU rocks West Virginia

NORMAN — Oklahoma dominated West Virginia in its first dual at McCasland Field House since it upset No. 5-ranked Missouri on Jan. 8.

The Sooners (6-4) used five bonus-point wins to rout the Mountaineers, 37-6., on Sunday.

OU’s Christian Moody won by fall over Devin Brown in the 125-pound bout to open the dual.

The Sooners lost a 4-2 decision in the 133-pound match, but they went on to win the next six bouts. Seniors Clark Glass and

Matt Reed won by technical fall in the 157- and 174pound matches, respectively. Andrew Dixon (184) and Ross Larson (heavyweight) finished the rout with pins.

Oklahoma faces Iowa State in Ames at 7 p.m. Friday.
