John Gorka to make stop at The Depot in Norman
The Depot, 200 S Jones Ave., will feature singer/songwriter John Gorka in concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 12. Tickets are $20.
In 1991, Rolling Stone magazine called Gorka “the pre-eminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement.”
Gorka’s sound and lyrical insight has earned him generations of devoted fans and a career that’s found him gracing the stages Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage and venues worldwide, spokeswoman Nancy McClellan said.
Besides his 11 critically acclaimed albums, Gorka released a collector’s edition boxfeaturing a highdefinition DVD and companion CD called “The Gypsy Life.”
Windham Hill also released “Pure John Gorka,” a collection of his greatest hits from the label. In 2010 “Red Horse,” an album with his friends and Red House label-mates Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson, was released, getting praise from critics. “Red Horse” landed on the Billboard Folk Charts and was one of the most played albums on folk radio.
Gorka lives in Minnesota and when not on the road, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He continues to tour, playing festivals, theaters and clubs all over North America and Europe.
