City, school bonds, legislative race highlight Tuesday’s election
City officials in Yukon are asking residents to approve an $18 million bond issue that would go toward the construction of a sports park.
That proposal is one of a handful of matters that will go before central Oklahoma voters in Tuesday’s election.
The proposed sports park would be located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Frisco Road and State Highway 66. It would the first phase of a larger planned athletic development.
The bond issue that goes before voters Tuesday would fund the construction of nine outdoor soccer fields, spectator seating, scoreboards, concessions, restrooms, maintenance facilities, landscaping, sidewalks and parking lots. It also would pay to widen Frisco Road to four lanes.
City officials say the proposed bond issue would carry a maximum property tax increase of $133.27 on a $100,000 home.
Voters in the Noble school district will consider a pair of bond issues totaling $31.01 million. The package includes $30.01 million for construction projects and $1 million for transportation equipment.
The biggest-ticket items would include an $11.5 million performing arts center and an $8 million gymnasium. Other projects would include renovations at Katherine I. Daily Elementary School, a classroom addition at Hubbard Elementary School and renovations to the front entry and the library at Pioneer Elementary School.
In Seminole and Pottawatomie counties, five Democrats and four Republicans will seek their parties’ nominations for Oklahoma House District 28. The winners of each primary election will go on to the general election in May.
The seat was previously held by Republican Tom Newell, who resigned in December to take a job in the private sector.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Voters must show proof of identity when voting. Acceptable forms of identification include an Oklahoma driver’s license or identification card, a U.S. passport or military identification card, or photo identification from a federally recognized tribe.
