OSU’s Kaylee Jensen embraces opportunity to extend season
The Oklahoma State women’s basketball team hosts Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday in WNIT first-round action.
Cowgirls’ junior center Kaylee Jensen, named first-team All-Big 12 this season by league coaches, discussed the matchup with The Oklahoman prior to tip-off in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Q: What has been the team’s reaction to its WNIT berth?
A: We were a little disappointed that we came up short (of the NCAAs), but coach (Jim Littell) has been talking to us since the conference tournament … we still have more season to play, we could go and get a whole bunch of these wins and win this thing if we really put our mind to it. So our focus in practices has been to keep working hard and keep pushing.
What will be the key to defeating Abilene Christian?
Matching their intensity. Coach has been saying that they have a lot of hustle players that work really hard. Rebounding will be huge for us. We have a lot of size advantage against this team. I think their tallest (player) is about 6-1.
What has been the reaction of your friends and family for being named first-team All-Big 12?
I’ve had a lot of people text me and call me, saying they’re proud.
My mom posts everything on Facebook, so when it went on the internet, she shared the link. It’s been a great season and experience. This team has been great to help me get to be part of the first-team All-Big 12.
