EDMOND — “My son has killed my wife,” Brad Bryant told the 911 dispatcher.

Bryant had found the body of Katherine Deena Bryant, 54, in the garage of a home in the 5o0 block of Park Place about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.

“He had a crazy story, and now he has stolen the car, and I went looking for her and she’s in the garage and she’s been hit in the head. She’s dead,” Brad Bryant said.

“She’s laying in the garage. She has something over her head and I lifted it up. Her head is smashed so bad,” he said.

About three hours later, Joshua Thomas Bryant, 17, was arrested by Blackwell police on Interstate 35. He is held on a murder complaint, Edmond police spokeswoman Jennifer Wagnon said.

Brad Bryant told the dispatcher he’d returned from picking up his daughter at the gym and could not find his wife. Brad Bryant said he was going to take his son to a pitching lesson.

Brad Bryant said Joshua Bryant stole his stepmother’s car and fled before her body was found.

“I got home and he gave me excuses about where she went and I needed to work on the dinner and I started getting suspicious, and then I checked her phone. He ... the cops are here.” The call ends. Joshua Bryant told investigators he hit his stepmother with a baseball bat and knocked her unconscious, then dragged her into the garage and shot her in the head with a rifle, Wagnon said.

He was driving her 2011 white Infiniti when arrested. Blackwell is about 85 miles from the Bryants’ home.

Joshua Bryant has been enrolled at Boulevard Academy, the Edmond Public Schools alternative high school, since August 2016, spokeswoman Susan Parks-Schlepp said.

Bryant attended Edmond Santa Fe High School from August 2014 to December of 2015, she said. He is seen in Facebook photos wearing a Wolves baseball uniform.

“Edmond Public Schools is shocked and saddened to learn that current student Joshua Bryant has been arrested in connection with a homicide in the 500 block of Park Place in Edmond. Edmond Public Schools is fully cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation,” ParksSchlepp wrote in a news release.

Katherine Bryant — formerly Cantrell — was married to Brad Bryant in May, Oklahoma County court records show. They owned together the house where Cantrell was killed, assessor records show.

Joshua Bryant will be booked into the Oklahoma County jail. He is held without bail.
