Edmond Memorial girls win title
The only real drama that remained for the Edmond Memorial girls track team on Saturday afternoon was whether its seniors could be with their team to receive the Class 6A state championship trophy and still make it to downtown Oklahoma City for graduation.
The Bulldogs blew past the rest of the field for their fifth state championship in the last seven years, and shortly after the team posed for photos atop the podium, the seniors zipped out of Miller Stadium after anchoring Memorial’s dominant performance.
“The senior class has to provide that leadership,” coach said. “We’ve got a great coaching staff, but we can only talk so much. The seniors have been tremendous every day in practice, having the right mindset, picking kids up or laying the hammer down if that’s what the team needs.”
The Edmond Memorial girls 400 relay team of
and won in 47.20, the team’s only gold medal of the day and second of the meet.
Yet their depth allowed the Bulldogs to pile up 134 points.
Moore finished as runnerup with 66 points thanks to the 1,600 relay team of
and which won in 3:54.15 to seal the second-place finish with 66 points.
Holmes coasted to the girls 400 title in 55.39, winning by nearly two seconds.
Tulsa Union won the 1,600 relay to claim the boys state championship with 104 points. Edmond Memorial was second at 91.
Golden repeats as high jump champ
For the second day in a row and the second year in a row, Bailey was Golden.
A day after winning the long jump, Choctaw’s
added another state title. Golden cleared 5 feet, 8 inches to repeat as the high jump state champion.
Larrison adds another gold, meet record
Moore’s finished off his junior year with a bang. In addition to repeating as the shot put champion, he set the 6A meet record with a throw of 63-3.
The previous record of 63-1
had been held by Cameron Tabor of Norman since 2007.
Taking home gold
• Mustang sophomore
swept the hurdles, winning the 100 in 15.04 and the 300 in 45.15.
• won a tight race in the 110-meter hurdles, winning in 14.24, with teammate second at 14.28. • Edmond North senior
won the 200 in 21.88. • Putnam City West’s edged teammate in the boys 100 to win in 10.66.
• Norman’s won the boys pole vault with a height of 15-0.
