NORMAN — Police have arrested the father of a woman found dead inside her home June 29, authorities report.

At 5:42 a.m. June 29, police responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 1700 block of Abe Martin Drive, where they found Kailee Jo McMullen, 22, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Norman police arrested the victim’s father, Ronald Lee McMullen, 43, Wednesday after an investigation into the woman’s suspicious death.

McMullen was booked into the Cleveland County jail on a murder complaint. The case remains under investigation, although police do not anticipate any further arrests.

Kailee McMullen graduated from Norman North High School in 2013, where she was co-captain of the varsity cheer squad during her senior year. She attended Bible college in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, her obituary said. At the time of her death, she worked as an emergency medical technician at Norman Regional EMSSTAT and at CSL Plasma.

She loved dogs and often took her Australian shepherd mix, Mackie, to the Norman community dog park, where she met Dustin Merritt about a year ago.

“She was quick to make friends out there,” Merritt said. “She had a bubbly personality and everybody loved her dog, Mackie.”

Merritt, a former firefighter, said they connected instantly because Kailee McMullen had plans to become a firefighter. Merritt said he was saddened to find out about her death.

“The Norman community was was robbed of a public servant, a very outstanding human being and a future firefighter,” Merritt said. “It is very tragic.”
