Hagen wins Tour stage

After two second-place finishes, Edvald Boasson Hagen finally got a stage victory at this Tour de France.

Chris Froome and the other top riders took it easy, saving themselves for their last big fight this weekend.

Boasson Hagen, from Norway, caught the right breakaways on the longest stage and used all of his guile and strength to hold off chasers in the final section on Friday.

Ledecky set for big week

Katie Ledecky shrugs off the notion that she’s doing anything special over the next week.

For the 20-year-old American star, the improbable has become the expected.

Of course, there’s nothing restful about her plans for the world championships in Budapest, where the swimming competition begins on Sunday. Ledecky will race every day for seven straight days, a total of 6,300 meters if all goes according to plan.

To add a little perspective, Michael Phelps put in 3,300 meters — roughly half the distance of Ledecky’s program — on his way to a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics.

Cardinals camp opens with healthy Arians

Coach Bruce Arians brought the Arizona Cardinals together Friday for his fifth training camp as their coach.

The first words out of his mouth to reporters: “I’m healthy.”

The 64-year-old coach survived a cancer scare in the offseason, undergoing surgery in February, and he wants the health issue pushed to the background as he tries to fix the problems that made last season such a disappointment.
