Faith groups get students ready for school
Backpacks, pencils, colored markers and paper.
The school supply list is a sign that it’s time for youths to head back to the classroom.
Several metro-area churches are offering back-to-school activities and school supply giveaways to help families as the prepare for the new school year. Here is a list of such events. Activities are free unless otherwise noted.
People’s Church, 800 E Britton Road, “Day of Hope,” 8 to noon July 29, free school supplies, backpacks, haircuts, dental screenings, health exams, sports physicals, children’s fun zone with inflatables. Information: http://peoples church.tv.
OKC Faith Church, 800 S Portland, “Feeding the 5000” backpack and school supply giveaway, Aug. 5, geared for age 4 through 12th grade, burritos and drinks will be provided, children and guardian must attend one a presentation at one of the following times to receive items: 9, 10 or 11 a.m. or noon. Alameda Church of Christ, 801 E Alameda, Norman, “Streams of Water Ministry Back to School Round Up,” 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 5, backpacks with school supplies will be distributed to Norman area families while supplies last, local nonprofit organizations featured in an information fair for parents, lunch, hair cuts, children’s activities.
