- FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Oklahoma Genealogical Society and the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Center will offer a "Summer Sizzler: Genealogy All-Stars" workshop Aug. 4-5 at the Oklahoma History Center.

This program will feature a team of local speakers, beginning with a general session presented by Bob Blackburn, executive director of the historical society, according to a news release.

"OGS is proud to partner with the Oklahoma Historical Society for the 2017 Summer Sizzler. We are honored that Dr. Bob Blackburn is our featured speaker, and we encourage everyone not to miss his talk,” said Mike Birdsong, genealogical society president.

“Of all of the partners who have helped the Oklahoma Historical Society achieve its mission of collecting, preserving and sharing Oklahoma history, none has been more essential than the Oklahoma Genealogical Society, which has supported every effort not only to serve but also to expand the number of people who understand that family research is the building block of Oklahoma history,” Blackburn said.

Workshop speakers will include Bill Welge, Debra Spindle, Mahlon Erickson and Jim Ike. Sessions will explore DNA testing, migration trails, adoption records, genealogy software and breaking through brick walls.

Workshop hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days, and doors open at 9:30 a.m. Each day will begin with a general session followed by lunch and multiple breakout sessions. Seating for afternoon sessions is limited and registration is first come, first served.

Registration is $60 for both days or $50 for one day, lunch included. A complete schedule, online registration and printable registration forms are available at www.okgensoc.org. The Oklahoma History Center is at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive.
