Former Broken Arrow star to be released from prison

Thomas is set to be released from prison after a judge modified his 10-year sentence Wednesday, according to the Tulsa World.
Thomas, 22, was sentenced in August 2016 to 10 years in prison after entering blind pleas of no contest in Tulsa County to a series of 2014 and 2015 charges related to two armed robberies.
During a judicial review hearing Wednesday, District Judge James Caputo modified Thomas’ term to an eight-year suspended sentence supervised by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Thomas was a threestar prospect from Broken Arrow who totaled more than 3,100 yards and 35 touchdowns in his high school career.
After enrolling at OSU in the spring 2014 semester so he could participate in spring practices, he was removed from the roster that summer after being arrested.
Thomas wrote a letter petitioning the court for an amended sentence saying he was “reckless” with his life and had a group of friends with “nothing to lose.” The judge granted the request based on a number of multiple letters of support from teachers and a youth pastor as well as Thomas’ participation in rehabilitation programs while incarcerated at the Jess Dunn Correctional Center.
Oklahoma Christian Academy names starting QB
Senior quarterback Kody Wilson will be Oklahoma Christian Academy’s starting quarterback when the team heads to Hennessey on Friday for the first game of the season.
The Fighting Eagles were quarterbacked by Caleb Powell last season, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards and threw for 700 in the triple-option offense. Powell is now a freshman at Air Force.
Wilson was pushed for the starting job by sophomore S’mauri Abram, who is one of the best athletes on the team, says OCA coach Grey Powell.
“Kody is the leader and does a great job of making the right reads to put us in the best position to win,” Powell said. “S’Mauri is a great athlete and once he matures as a player, we are going to have two great quarterbacks.”
