Payne undergoes foot surgery

The Chicago Bulls say former Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cameron Payne had surgery on his broken right foot and is expected to be out three to four months.

Payne had surgery to repair the fifth metatarsal on Wednesday. The team says he will remain in a splint the next seven to 10 days and then spend six to eight weeks in a boot.

Payne was injured in a workout on July 18. Six weeks of rest in a boot was prescribed, but the team said recently a subsequent scan showed the bone did not heal “satisfactorily.”

Payne also broke his right foot during the 2015-16 season with Oklahoma City.

Hardy activated from DL

Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy, out nearly three months with a broken right wrist, has been activated from the 60-day disabled list.

Hardy was hit by a pitch on June 18 and placed on the DL the following day. He is batting .211 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 64 games and recently completed a minor league rehab assignment.

White Sox shut down starter Carlos Rodon

Carlos Rodon’s season is over.

The White Sox starter will not pitch again in 2017 because of inflammation in his left pitching shoulder and was placed on the 10-day disabled list, the team announced Friday.

Rodon, whose season start was delayed because of left biceps bursitis before he developed into the team’s top starter, was scratched just before Thursday’s start against the Indians with stiffness in his shoulder, saying, “I didn’t feel right” while warming up.
